Creators of Film "Man of God" Currently Working on New Film "Moses the Black"

On the heels of the success of Man of God, the English-speaking international hit on the life of the Greek saint Nektarios of Aegina, with a cast of acclaimed actors, including Golden Globe winner Mickey Rourke, writer-director-producer Yelena Popovic and producer Alexandros Potter recently launched Simeon Faith, a fund that will finance and produce talent-driven, highly marketable films with strong elements of faith for a global audience. Simeon Faith is backed by a network of cinephiles and investors that recognize the importance of investing in impactful content in a media-dominated world.

The fund aims to develop, finance and produce one to two films per year over the next four years, with a focus on hard-hitting, relevant and meaningful stories that will bring the lives of the saints and messages of faith to the big screen. The first film on the slate currently in development is Moses the Black, a story of a gangster in modern-day Chicago inspired by the incredible story of repentance of the fourth century saint of the same name. You can learn more about Saint Moses the Black here.

Moses the Black will give hope and courage to people to abandon a life of sin, firmly believing that God forgives those who truly repent and welcomes them to eternal life. No life is lost or meaningless in the eyes of God,” said writer/director Yelena Popovic, who wrote and is directing Moses the Black.

Omar Epps (Power Book III: Raising Kanan), rappers Wiz Khalifa and Quavo, and Chukwudi Iwuji (The Day Of The Jackal) have been set to star in the gangland drama Moses The Black, with Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and his G-Unit Film and Television on board as executive producers. Khalifa is executive-producing through his Taylor Gang Films, while Epps is also serving as an executive producer through his production company BrooklynWorks Films.

Epps plays Chicago gang leader and lead character Malik, with Khalifa as 2wo-3ree, the confident and volatile leader of Malik’s young crew. It marks the Grammy nominated rapper’s second movie role and his first as one of the leads. Quavo plays Straw, Malik’s arch-nemesis. The title character, St. Moses the Black, is played by Iwuji. Principal photography is slated for later this spring in Chicago.

Simeon Faith is financing alongside the Nick Mirkopoulos Cinematic Fund, backed by the former owners of Cinespace Film Studios—the Pissios family of Chicago and the Mirkopoulos family of Toronto—who also serve as executive producers on the film.

Popovic will also serve as co-CEO for Simeon Faith handling the fund’s day-to-day content development strategy, including development and creative oversight. Potter will serve as co-CEO, and will be responsible for the fund’s day-to-day operations and strategy, including financing and production. The next two movies after Moses the Black will be inspired by true stories of John Lennon and Greta Garbo.

“I’m excited to be a part of Moses the Black as an executive producer. Collaborating with great talent ensures we’re bringing authentic and compelling stories to the screen. Yelena’s vision for this film is sure to create a hit,” said Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson.

“Yelena Popovic is an immensely impactful storyteller, and I’m looking forward to bringing Moses the Black to life alongside this incredibly talented group of artists,” added Epps.

“I’m excited to be working with Yelena and alongside Omar, Quavo and Chukwudi on Moses The Black. As an actor and executive producer on the project, I can’t wait to start shooting and for all my fans to see the film!” commented Khalifa.
